1. Controller

PeekDate Oy (business ID 3660252-1), c/o Teho-osasto Coworking, Kyllikinkatu 15 C 3b, 33500 Tampere, Finland. Privacy contact: [email protected]. Peek is a dating app for people aged 18 and over, by application.

2. What we process

• Account data: your e-mail address and sign-in codes (single-use, sent to your e-mail), or your Google or Apple sign-in identifier if you sign in with them.
• Application and profile:
  • name, date of birth, gender, who you want to meet and who you want to be shown to;
  • your municipality (not a precise location) and occupation;
  • your answers to the application's questions (for example what you are looking for, children, living together, marriage, alcohol, smoking, exercise and pets);
  • values, interests, open answers and photos.
• Wishes:
  • age range and maximum distance;
  • an optional wish about appearance and a description of the person you hope for.

  Wishes are never shown to another user. They are used only to choose your pair.

• Handling your application: its status, the reviewer's message to you, the reason for a rejection, and a record of the reviews.
• Pairing:
  • the pairs suggested and published for you, their fit scores and reasons, and your answers;
  • records of when you do not answer a pair or your turns (see section 4 of the Terms).
• Dates:
  • activities and your answers to them, drawings and messages;
  • turns and their deadlines, your choice about meeting, and how the date ended;
  • your answer to the feedback question ("Was this pair a good fit for you?": a rating from 1 to 5 and an optional note).
• Safety:
  • blocks, and reports you make or that are made about you;
  • the copy of a conversation and of the reported profile kept with a report (see section 8).
• Notifications:
  • your device's push token and whether the device allows notifications;
  • delivery receipts for notifications sent to it;
  • whether a notification went as a push or as an e-mail.
• Crash reports: if the app crashes or hits an error, the device model, the operating system and app versions, a technical description of the error and the app's steps leading up to it. Reports carry no name, e-mail address, messages, photos or account identifier.
• Technical data: server logs (e.g. IP address, app version, request times) kept for a limited time by our providers to run and secure the service. Your language setting.

Data from the earlier app: the data of Peek's earlier version (likes, passes, matches and their messages, device location, feature photos, object photos and drawings, and subscription data) will be deleted by 31 December 2026 at the latest.

3. Purposes and legal bases

• Handling your application and providing the app (account, profile, pairing, dates, messages and meeting ideas): performance of the contract and steps taken before entering into it.
• Checking applications and photos, handling reports and keeping their evidence copy, preventing abuse and securing the service: legitimate interest (the safety of users).
• Pairing: we score how well two people fit, which is profiling. A person approves every pair, so no pair is made by automated means alone.
• Your gender, who you want to meet and who you are shown to: these can reveal your sexual orientation, a special category of personal data (GDPR Art. 9). We process them on the basis of your explicit consent, given when you fill them in, and only to choose your pair. You can change them, and withdraw consent by deleting your account.
• Push notifications: consent, given in your device's permission prompt and withdrawable in the device's settings.
• E-mail notifications (your application, your pair, events on your date, and as a fallback when a push does not arrive): performance of the contract.
• Date feedback: voluntary. We use it to improve pairing; legitimate interest.
• Crash reports: legitimate interest.
• We do not sell your data or use it for advertising.

4. Providers that process your data for us

• Supabase: our backend — sign-in, database, photo storage and server functions.
• Sightengine: every photo you upload, including your application's photos, is sent to Sightengine before it is stored, to detect inappropriate content. Sightengine uses the photos for this purpose only.
• Expo: push notification delivery. Expo receives your device's push token and the notification's content. For a message on a date this includes the sender's first name and the start of the message; other notifications name nobody. Apple (APNs) or Google (FCM) deliver it to your device.
• Resend: sends e-mail, namely sign-in codes and the service's messages. Resend receives your e-mail address and the message's content.
• Sentry: receives and stores crash reports, in the EU (Germany).
• Apple and Google: Sign in with Google or Apple, if you use them, and delivering push notifications.

5. Who sees what, and how a pair is chosen

• Your pair sees on the pair card:
  • your name, age, photos and occupation;
  • the distance between you, to 5 km, or that you live in the same town, but never your municipality;
  • why we suggest you to each other, meaning your shared answers, values and interests;
  • all your answers, values and interests;
  • your approved open answers.

  On a date they see your messages and your answers to the activities.

• Your wishes and how your application was handled are seen by no other user. Only the people running the service see them.
• Pairing: within firm limits (your age range, distance, who you want to meet and who you are shown to, and blocks), we score how well two people fit from your answers, values, interests and wishes. A person approves every pair.
• Meeting ideas: if you both want to meet, we show ideas linked to interests you have both chosen, and general ideas.
• Notifications:
  • We tell you about your application, your pair and events on your date by push if you allow notifications, and by e-mail otherwise.
  • If a push does not arrive, we send the same message by e-mail.
  • Your application's approval or a request for more, and a new pair, always go by e-mail too.
  • You can turn push notifications off in your phone's settings. In the app's settings you can turn off e-mail notifications; messages about your application and your new pair are still sent by e-mail. You can also choose whether message notifications show the sender's name and the start of the message.

6. Transfers outside the EU

Our database and your photos are in the EU (Ireland). Expo processes push notifications in the United States under the EU–US Data Privacy Framework. Resend processes e-mail mainly in the United States under the European Commission's standard contractual clauses, and is also committed to the EU–US Data Privacy Framework. Sightengine is a French company with some providers in the United States; those transfers rest on contractual safeguards. Sentry processes crash reports in the EU. Apple and Google process data under their own policies.

7. How long we keep data

• We keep your data while your account exists.
• A rejected application is deleted six months after the decision.
• A pairing round's interim calculations are deleted once the pairs are published.
• Your date feedback is deleted with your account, and after two years at the latest.
• Reports and their evidence copies are kept for 2 years, or longer while a matter they concern is still open.
• The record of how applications and pairs were handled is kept for 2 years.
• The record of notifications and e-mails sent (type, time and channel, not their content) is kept for 90 days.
• Service monitoring events (the status of photo checks, push receipts and e-mails, not their content) are kept for 90 days.
• Push delivery receipts are deleted once delivery is confirmed, within a day at the latest.
• Drawings from a date are deleted within a day of the date being deleted.
• Crash reports are kept in Sentry for at most 90 days.
• Deleted database data remains in daily backups for at most 7 days; photos are not in the backups.

8. Deleting your account

You can delete your account as a member on the Account tab, or as an applicant on your application's status page or its Summary page (Delete account). Deletion is permanent. It removes:

• your application, your profile and all your photos;
• your pairs, your dates and their messages and activities (for the other person too);
• your date feedback, blocks and push tokens.

Any date you have running ends, and the other person is told only that it ended.

Exceptions: reports are kept after an account is deleted, in both directions. They keep:

• the name the reported person had when the report was made;
• the copy of the conversation and of the reported profile kept with the report, as the profile was shown to the reporter (texts and photos).

The record of how the application and pairs were handled is kept too. Otherwise deleting an account would erase the complaints about it and what they rest on. We use them only for safety and handling abuse, and keep them as section 7 says.

9. Your rights

You have the right to access your data, correct it, erase it, restrict or object to its processing, receive it in a portable format, and withdraw consent. You can review and correct most of it in the app and delete your account yourself. Other requests: [email protected]. We answer requests within one month. You can complain to the Finnish Data Protection Ombudsman (tietosuoja.fi) or to the supervisory authority where you live.

10. Changes

We may update this policy. We will tell you about material changes in the app.
